A Year with Troop 110 – 2025 Recap

The numbers don’t lie! It has been a busy year for the scouts of Troop 110. While there is so much more to scouting than you can capture in a handful of numbers, it is worth pausing to look back at everything the scouts have accomplished. So, what happened in 2025?

  • 7 weekend campouts
  • 8 days at summer camp
  • 4 days at winter camp
  • 14 days at Philmont with 4 scouts
  • 228 miles hiked
  • 371 service hours completed
  • 7 individual awards earned
  • 23 rank advancements
  • 80 merit badges awarded
  • 2 Eagle Scouts
  • 1 Scoutmaster of the Year honoree

Let’s take a quick look at each of those statistics.

7 Weekend Campouts

This includes your normal “leave on Friday after school, get back Sunday afternoon” trips. In 2025, the troop camped at locations including Camp Shands, Fort Clinch, Tomoka, Camp Blanding, and Echockotee. For each campout, Patrols worked together to plan and cook meals and the Troop came together to fish, practice orienteering skills, canoe and kayak, and practice target sports on the ranges of Camp Shands. The scouts also supported a local Cub Scout Pack by volunteering to help lead activities at their fall campout.

8 Days at Summer Camp

Summer of 2025 took Troop 110 up to Camp Daniel Boone in Canton, NC just outside of Asheville, NC. The scouts worked on merit badges during the day and enjoyed a range of activities in the evening. We also had two adult leaders complete their IOLS training.

4 Days at Winter Camp

The scouts decided to try a new adventure and headed down to Camp La No Che for 4 days and 3 nights of winter camp activities. They completed work on more merit badges and learned some new skills, including using a lathe to make their own wooden pens. Countless hours were spent at the Gaga pit and the Troop took home a ribbon for winning the Candy Cane Scavenger hunt.

14 Days at Philmont with 4 Scouts

Four scouts from Troop 110 joined the North Florida Council contingent on a trip out to New Mexico for 14 days. While there, they completed a trek at Philmont. They learned a lot and have shared their excitement with the younger scouts who hope to join the older scouts on a return trip to Philmont in the coming years.

228 Miles Hiked

This included many miles traveled at Philmont as well as shorter hikes at the local arboretum. Scouts hiked in the mountains of North Carolina and through the shrubs and brush of Starke, Florida. And those are just the miles they recorded along the way.

371 Service Hours Completed

Service opportunities ranged from helping with parking for a live nativity and supporting the Mandarin Arts Festival to volunteering at the Jacksonville Humane Society. Over the course of one year, Troop 110 scouts supported younger scouts in their Cub Scout journey all they way up to our most recent Eagle Scout and his service project installing butterfly gardens at a local elementary school.

7 Individual Awards Earned

These awards represent important skills scouts have learned this past year. Specifically around fire safety and the use of pocket and kitchen knives. We had 4 scouts complete the requirements for Firem’n Chit and Totin’ Chip.

23 Rank Advancements

This is a big one, and the number “23” really doesn’t do it justice. Behind each rank advancement is hours of skill development and master, dozens of smaller requirements, and immeasurable commitment to their fellow scouts through support, leadership, and involvement. This also speaks to the dedication of the PLC to support younger scouts, the Scoutmasters and their commitment to delivering the program for the youth, and the committees commitment to supporting all of the logistics along the way.

80 Merit Badges Awarded

Many of these merit badges were completed at Summer Camp and Winter Camp, but scouts also took initiative to work on merit badges out side of these programs. Scouts attended workshops at MOSH and through North Florida Council. They also worked individually with merit badge counselors. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who supported our scouts in their endeavors this year!

2 Eagle Scouts

This year, the troop saw two scouts complete their Eagle Board of Review and earn the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. In addition to seeing the culmination of years of hard work, the younger scouts also benefitted from experiencing the work of an Eagle Scout project by getting their hands dirty and volunteering. By supporting the execution of these project, the scouts showed tremendous support for their fellow scouts.

1 Scoutmaster of the Year Honoree

Scouting is a youth led activity, but every circus needs a ringmaster. Mr. Bill, the beloved Scoutmaster of Troop 110, went above and beyond. In recognition of this, he was nominated for and selected as the Scoutmaster of the Year for Sabol District in North Florida Council. Congratulations Mr. Bill, and thank you for all the hard work and dedication. You always show up for the scouts when they need you and it shows.

What a Year!

Congratulations to all the scouts of Troop 110 for everything you have accomplished in the last 12 months. Thank you to the registered adult leaders, merit badge counselors, committee members, and scoutmasters who supported you along the way. And let’s look forward to another year ahead with many adventures and accomplishments yet to come!
